• Me: I kind of hate reading about the condition of the art world for the past 20 years. it's like the only value is originality and the only originality is to question tradition. except we've gone all the way we can with that so now everything is just pointless.
• Juan: I think we're starting to question what art itself is though?
• Me: Nope. That was ten years ago. we're like post post post post modernist now. even exhausted the question of art itself. thats not an original idea anymore. so what do we do now?
• Juan: make beautiful things I guess
• Me: no way, that would never be accepted in the art world. to make beautiful things that don't make a claim or a statement or shock anyone? that only goes over on the internet
• Juan: it takes a lot of courage to admit that you made something just because it is aesthetically pleasing. but I think we'll see a swing back to that, back to the basics of things that just, look nice
• Me: like shapes and colors and good arrangements and stuff. yeah no one would get famous just for painting pretty pictures though
• Juan: it's the same in music. you'll be accused of simplemindedness and copying if you just make something that is enjoyable to listen to, even if its in a thousand year old tradition
• Me: bucking tradition has become too mainstream
• Juan: now its hipster to like Lady Gaga

(like those Scholastic ones in elementary school, but with more booths, languages, gorgeous graphic design books, and overconvincing booksellers. “You are student? Graphic design? This books are requirement, must have, very very good! Only 120 for you!”)

The Moment You Know You’re Old

is when your youngest sister points out a cussword written an image on your blog, you apologize profusely and explain that it was taught to make you remember a concept for class, and then she says, it’s okay, she understands, it would work in her classes too.
